Seat Belt Palava
It was a really busy day, I had been working all morning and well into the afternoon and I really needed a break. Just as I was pondering how to cool off a bit to rest and refresh my mind, a colleague of mine, who we will call lady KAS, came by and stated she was heading out. I asked her where she was heading to, and if it wasn’t too far, so that I could go with her. Gladly, it was just 15 minutes away.
We got into the car and got gisting. As we drove out, I noticed the seat belt alarm was blaring; meaning someone wasn’t using her seat belt. I turned to her and said, ‘You need to wear your seat belt’. She looked at me puzzled, so I stressed it again, ‘Wear your seat belt!’. She smiled and said, ‘I’m wearing my seat belt’. Then I looked and saw that I was the guilty one!... and together we burst out laughing.
I thought about, and quoted the verse that says, take off the log in your eyes before removing the speck in your neighbor’s eyes. My GOD!, it’s so easy to point an accusing finger at someone else. We always think the problem is with someone else when the problem might stem from us. If only we could just pause and think things through with an unbiased mind, we will see that even when the other person is at fault, we may also have our own share of the blame.
I learned a major lesson... look into the mirror carefully before pointing a finger at others, like I did.
