That addiction can be broken... Here's my own Testimony

Sometime in 2018... The day began like any normal day, the sun shone brightly as I made my way to National Hospital to keep my hospital appointment. I wasn't prepared for what I heard the doctor say, after I walked into his office and had a seat. "Your left hip is bad and you will be needing a replacement soon". I paused and allowed his words to sink in. When was this all going to end? I was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia when I was 7, and sicklers have a condition known as vascular necrosis; a condition when the head of the femur starts to die and shrink making it difficult to walk, and hard for the hip joint to bare the body weight.... and yes it is as painful as it sounds. Back to my story.... The fact that I needed a hip replacement meant the head of my femur was dead. I suspected because of the level of pains I had been experiencing but I tried to push it aside. But here I sat as the doctor confirmed my worst fears. Yes, a replacement! I mean ...

Fighting Blindly

Image
While we made preps for lunch, myself and my aunt watched the passing out parade in honour of the 78 regular recruits intake which took place in Zaria.   Pause Zaria is a land that has produced giants; intellectually, politically, military and religion wise. Of recent the land has been brewing and breeding a generation that will shake the world. Back to the story As a group of soldiers passed by with different forms of disguising attires, my aunt said: "These guys are dressed to hide and confuse the enemy". Very true, I thought to myself but my mind processed what she said the other way round. While these guys were dressed to hide from the enemy, things were different in the real world where the reverse happens to be the case. In the Spirit and physical realm, our enemies are the ones that hide and disguise themselves and blend into our lives so perfectly that we hardly suspect them, and even when we are trying to decipher "the who and why"...

All for love sake

I remember mummy mixing my medication when I was little, the days before I understood swallowing your drugs was the best option. With diligence and patience, mummy would put the tabs in a spoon, add water to it and crush. On a certain occasion the smell of the mixture alone made me want to run and hide forever. For where? I was grabbed and the mixture was poured down through my oesophagus while I struggled to break free.  *It was an horrible experience but nevertheless for my good* I recalled this scenario because of something I heard Pastor Dr. Paul Enenche said recently. Our parents would go through any length to give us our medications just so our bodies could fight whatever was ailing us, and so we could regain our strength again. At no point in time did they our parents think not giving those medication was an option. Why? Because they knew and understood how much good those drugs would do to us, and they also knew the repercussion of failing to give them to us; ...

The bag of faith

When service year was almost over, Tosin, my friend of blessed memory stumbled across a Newspaper where she saw University of Ibadan's admission opportunities for those interested in having a masters degree. That was the beginning of our escapades to the business center somewhere along taki junction in Ogbomoso. Pause: *I can't remember if I wanted to bag a masters degree immediately but the door opened before me just at the right time and I grabbed it and walked through it. *I have learnt that GOD leads you step by step, and there will be lots of things you might miss out on if you are waiting to see the full picture before you move.  Back to the story... We submitted our applications successfully and left it to GOD. Months later, we had our POP and I spent some days at Tosin's house somewhere in Ibadan before leaving for home. I was led to leave one of my bags in her house. I remember saying to Tosin jokingly that the bag ...

The washing of the chicken

Image
I entered into the house to meet the smiles of Miriam's rival, Lil. Her smiles were so bright and inviting that I almost forgot to hug her mum who had opened the door for me, all because I wanted to go give Lil a big hug. After hugging her mum, I went to Lil, and gave her a big sweet hug. I tickled her so much her laughter filled the air. We got into the house and we sat by the table as Lil was about to have some chicken. She put it in her mouth and complained the pepper was much. Her mum asked if she should wash the stew off the chicken, but she said no and decided to have coconut candy instead. She munched with smiles while we tried to help her brother prepare for his exams. He said something that made us laugh, I laughed and turned to face Lil, but she wasn't there.  *Little children can disappear so fast you need to watch them constantly* I got up and went into her room. As I walked in, I heard water running in the bathroom. I looked in that direction and...

Lessons from Dad

Image
Dad had sent a driver to come and pick me from school. To make it easier, the driver came from the branch where my school was located, so I could be dropped off at the Jos branch then get someone else to take me down to Kaduna.  Max, max, I was supposed to travel along with LKS (who is sleeping in the Lord now). Ask me what I did oh? Hahahhaa I cannot gerrover the laughter when I think back. When the car was ready to move, we were like 6 fegolang girls inside the car. Yes, that number exactly...hahaha. We had fun traveling to Jos together, I can't recall those in the car sef but I remember the lessons learnt from the whole adventure. Fast forward... When we arrived the branch in Jos, there was no car to carry that number of people. The car available was just for me and LKS. We waited for a while and they got a car that could take us to Kaduna. We arrived KD in good time and I was taken home. I wasn't aware I had cooked serious beans, the beans had burnt sef. But I b...
