Lessons from Dad

Image
Dad had sent a driver to come and pick me from school. To make it easier, the driver came from the branch where my school was located, so I could be dropped off at the Jos branch then get someone else to take me down to Kaduna.  Max, max, I was supposed to travel along with LKS (who is sleeping in the Lord now). Ask me what I did oh? Hahahhaa I cannot gerrover the laughter when I think back. When the car was ready to move, we were like 6 fegolang girls inside the car. Yes, that number exactly...hahaha. We had fun traveling to Jos together, I can't recall those in the car sef but I remember the lessons learnt from the whole adventure. Fast forward... When we arrived the branch in Jos, there was no car to carry that number of people. The car available was just for me and LKS. We waited for a while and they got a car that could take us to Kaduna. We arrived KD in good time and I was taken home. I wasn't aware I had cooked serious beans, the beans had burnt sef. But I b...

Show your kids the way to go

I grew up watching my parents and siblings come together at a particular time to kneel and pray.  What did this teach me? *Prayer was important and was considered a vital part of their lives *They made me understand, I had to set and make time for prayer *And it wasn't just about setting time but I also had to ensure I prayed when the set time arrived These were major lessons for me As I grew a little older, I watched as the TV set was put off just before a soap opera we all loved was about to be aired. Why? Because it was time to kneel in prayers. They made me understand that the programme could wait. If we finished praying and it was still being aired, fine but if not whatever... What was most important was we had honoured GOD. With this prioritizing became easy Prayers wasn't just done in the evenings but also in the mornings. The prayer time in the mornings, was where I learnt and understood the words "delayed gr...

Watch it! Your words have a lasting impact

My niece and nephews were glued to the TV watching the cartoon, "Sanjay and Craig", while I worked on my laptop. I heard a line from the cartoon that made me laugh. Apparently, the kids had lost a balloon and went in search of it and while the search was on, one of the kids screamed out: "Where are you?" "Please return to us" "Was it something I said?  I'm sorry, I take it back" I smiled at the last line cos one of the few things we can never and will never ever be able to take back, no matter how hard we try, are the words we have spoken. Just as light or a laser beam is a force that can pierce a glass when focused on it, the words we speak are also a force that once targeted at a person, hits, pierces and hurts if negative but heals and strengthens if positive. Wondering why your words carry so much power? You were made in GOD's image. He calls you a god. When you received Him, He gave you the power to be called His ...

GOD has not forgotten

As I got into the house that Saturday, all I wanted to do was sleep, the week had been stressful but the awaited results made it worth while. I found just the perfect spot on the rug in the children's parlour, I laid down and within minutes sleep took over. After a while, from my sleep, I heard Dara rushing to get the phone to speak to her dad. Over time, we had come to know her usual lines when she spoke to her dad. As she took the phone, Dara didn't fall my hands, she blurted out:  "Daddy, when are you coming?  And then next came the second most famous sentence: "Daddy, have you bought the things I said you should buy for me?" These two sentences has been her usual lines for months. I was used to them but as she said the second sentence, my mind was hit by a thought. Although, Dara was yet to receive the stuffs she had requested for and it seemed time was going, she kept asking for them with the same zeal, ecstasy and joy in her voice e...

A letter to dad

Image
Dear daddy,  You would have been a year older today But we are grateful for the years we were privilege to have spent with you. It was worth it, very worth it, the tutoring, discipline, instructions, wise words and the knowledge imparted among other things made the years we spent with you worthwhile.  A lot has happened since you went home Mum is doing better than the previous year. We had a laugh about you some days back. We were talking about the outcome of the elections, and I was telling mum that I could imagine your reaction if you were still here, you most likely would have quit watching Nigerian TV stations entirely. We laughed and she mentioned how you said, you wouldn't be around when Buhari returned for a second tenure and true, Buhari won and you aren't here.  Well, on a lighter note, some of your children have grown fatter... I won't mention their names...Lol..(they know themselves). Some tried but it just didn't happen (We know ourselves...

His plans will amaze you, just be patient

Dara: Aunty Tope, what am I taking to School today? Myself: Beans, I replied. Just so I could hear her response Dara: Yuck Myself: You said what? Dara: Disgusting she responded I burst into laughter. Dara is just 5 years old, so I was amazed she was giving me these amazing responses. "Yuck" "Disgusting" All these expressions for the protein-given beans...lol. By the way, I heard not too long that beans is now considered a carbohydrate-given food. Well,  whether protein or carbs, the fact remains that beans has nutrients to offer man. Dara's reaction got me thinking though. I tried to recall scenarios where GOD had given me opportunities that didn't seem like it and I responded in a similar way like Dara did. GOD is indeed patient. He gives us what is perfect for us per time but because we can't see all He has planned we respond in amazing ways. Responses like "For real, is this it?", "GOD, why?", "GOD, do you ...

The Joy of seeing again... A true life story

Image
I had been coming into the office for the past 4 years but I really couldn't make out the colours on the walls neither could I tell if the wall needed cleaning or re-painting. My eye sight had gone that bad. But today, I walked into the office and for the first time, I could see the walls perfectly and I even noticed the walls were dirty. So, I asked for the walls to be cleaned. The gift of sight cannot be accurately explained in English or any other language. I had spent the last 10 years partially blind. I had hit and knocked against different things countless times. I pretended all was well because I was scared of going for an operation and losing my sight completely but today my story is different. Lesson 1: *Fear, if not overcomed keeps you at one spot. *Fear prevents you from accessing and enjoying amazing opportunities. *It stops you from fulfilling the life GOD had ordained for you. *Get help as soon as you need it, don't let fear stop ...
