Quick Sand
Quicksand consists of fine sand or silt, clay and water. When water cannot escape from the soil, it creates liquefied soil that loses strength and cannot support weight.

I had an experience with quick sand back at A.B.U. Na GOD save me. You see back then we went for picnics close to the dam. On this special it was a picnic organised for the choristers. We had finished and were heading back for the school area but decided to have a good view of the dam. I and a friend happen to have gone too close for a good view. Next thing I knew was that I was gradually decreasing in height (ahhh it wasn’t funny oh), my friend couldn’t help ‘cos she was also decreasing in height…lol. Fortunately for us, some members noticed and came to our rescue….thank GOD for able bodied men jare, I for enter soil finish that day.

This exactly what happens when we put out trust in men. They can do their best but they will most likely let you down. Even GOD says we should trust no man not even our spouses- very serious matter I’d say. The only person to be trusted is GOD. He alone can’t fail. Trusting him means your eyes are fixed sorely on him, not having back up plans in case God doesn’t answer when you want him to, how you want him to and where you expect the answer to show up.

A story is told of a man who slipped off a mountain top but was so fortunate to find a branch to hold on to. While he was there hanging, his hands where getting weak and tired. He decided to shout out to GOD for help. GOD heard him and told him to simply let go of the branch that he (GOD) will catch him- but he didn’t for fear of a fall that might lead to death. He ignored God and shouted louder “please anybody else up there?....lol”. In essence, he felt GOD wasn’t just making the kind of sense that will get him rescued.

We hate to feel helpless and look for back up plans, escape routes and help/life lines when GOD seems slow. Forgetting our helpless state is a good ground for God to step in and help. After doing and trying all we can do to no avail we end up crying out for his help and God gladly steps in to our rescue and as we well know his strength is made perfect in our weakness. The glory has to be his and not ours, that’s one of the dangers we encounter when we achieve things with ease, we sometimes tend to think that we achieved all via our strength, effort and wisdom, pushing GOD out of the scene.

Trusting GOD with all our hearts irrespective of how good or how seemingly bad things look is what GOD expects of us. He is the only pillar we can lean on without any fears, the only refuge place that provides maximum security from every kind of windstorm, sand storm or hailstones that may fall our way. He is the firmest foundation we can stand on without any thoughts of sinking, the surest foundation on which we can build our lives, the safest hiding place and the strongest tower ever. Truth be said, man is most likely to ‘fall your hand’, Psalm 108:12 says vain is the help of man but GOD (Psalm 118:8,9), won’t let you down nah never, you can count on that. Indeed “all other ground is sinking sand”. Depending on man is like taking a walk on a quick sand, the end result is that you will be left alone sinking fast into the ground beneath your feet.

You see, our fears of today, our fears for tomorrow, our thoughts of the past all come to rest when we anchor them all on Christ and sail with him all the way. Trusting HIM is a sure way to avoid sinking into quick sand.
