Last time, we talked about what honeymoon is. Today and subsequently,
we will be looking at various spots around the world where we can travel to, to
have and enjoy that nice and romantic honey moon we desire to have with our spouses.
In the south-western part of Nigeria, to be precise in the
city of Lagos is a city along the coastal shore with beautiful beaches and a strong
heritage. it is a place that blends the past and the present together, a place where you can re-connect, rejuvenate
and reignite your love. You are wondering where and what this place is right,
should I let the cat out of the bag? Wow ! I can hear some thunderous responses
-yes. Okay it is the town called BADAGRY.
The ancient town of Badagry was founded around 1425ad; its
origin can be traced to the people who lived along the coast of gberefu.
Gberefu gave rise to what we call Badagry today. Badagry is the second largest
town in Lagos and is an historic town with regards to Nigeria’s independence.
It was a major slave port and market on the West African coast which accounted
for over 600,000 slave exported to America and Europe.
Though a serene city, it has a lot of things going for it. Nevertheless
it still remains full of unspoiled nature.PLACES OF INTEREST
You have the palace of the Akran of Badagry with its mini ethnographic museum.
Yes and the first
story building in Nigeria built by some early missionaries.
You have lord Lugard’s house while he was a district
officer.
Incase you are wondering, this is what we have left of the house!
Another site to behold is the famous Agia Tree under which Christianity was first preached in Nigeria. I couln't get a picture of this.
There is the suntan beach,
a beach with good white sand and natural beauty.
Also, the coconut beach in the coastal town of badagry.
It is called the coconut paradise of badagry.
There are many other places in badagry which time and space will not permit
us to talk about but I must mention this also Badagry is a border town to other
West African countries.
In case you are wondering, where do I put my head during my
visit? Well, they have hotels like the Heritage resorts but the most popular,
captivating and exotic is the whispering palms where the palms actually do whisper.
Yes they do. Do I hear some doubting Thomases…….who would love to see before
they believe. Well a visit to Badagry will leave you dumbfounded. If you need
tickets just say the word.
What more can I say about this town? Well nothing, other than a visit will surely
convince you. Indeed Nigeria is truly blessed.
Watch out! Your country might be next!
